Biography:
Salvi Colom Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico 1973
His interest in photography started around the age of 10 when he received his first camera as a Christmas present. He is mostly self-taught in the art of photography, and has continued to develop his style and subject interests throughout his life. Salvi Colom worked in the sporting goods industry for almost twenty years while enjoying photography as a serious hobby. From the days of developing and printing BW's from his home darkroom, to the modern days of the digital imaging era in his personal studio, he has evolved in the same tracks as the medium. Salvi has traveled and explored every corner of the island of Puerto Rico and knows it like the back of his hand. In the process he has amassed a nice portfolio of local photography that compliments his travel images from all over the Caribbean islands, US, and the rest of the world.
Salvi is a full-time freelance photographer producing fine art landscape prints and stock images. His images have been published in a number of publications, newspapers, and websites. His fine art works have also been exhibited at various galleries and art spots in San Juan. During the past 4 months he has been working on the design and printing of his self-published photography book about the controversial island of Vieques, Vieques de Todos, which will be available by late January 2008. Currently living in San Juan, where he exhibits and sells most of his work, he is available for local and travel assignments, as well as commercial and editorial work. In 2006, he finished photographing the Vieques project and focused most of his time working on local artistic and commercial projects. In February 2007, he and his companion, Laura Hardy, walked around the island of Puerto Rico for 29 consecutive days with the purpose of photographing the complete coastline, which measures more than 300 miles. Some of his clients for the panoramic photomontages in 2007 included BLT Steak at the Ritz-Carlton, the Radisson Ambassador Hotel in Condado, and the Hampton Inn Hotel, all in San Juan, as well as private buyers in and out of PR. The December 2007 edition of local mainstream magazine Noctambulo is the "Artist Issue," which has been awarded to Salvi and his Fotomontajes. Click here to view the page spreads.
Currently he is seeking gallery representation outside Puerto Rico in order to reach a next level with his artistic photomontages. Throughout this month of November Salvi has been working on his new and breathtaking panoramic works from his last two trips to Italy (2006 & 2007). These are part of his new crop of fresh and unseen works that are interesting to an increasing number of art buyers who appreciate this type of fine-art photographic prints. For the past 4 years buyers of his limited edition prints have provided him with a steady income, as well as the confidence to carry on with present and future large-scale projects in and out of Puerto Rico..
