All these black and white photographs were shot with Kodak Tri-X film and printed on Ilford paper during my first trip to the island of Cuba in May 1999. These prints were exhibited at "Aqui se Puede" in San Juan. These timeless images take us from the streets of Havana to the countryside and give us an intimate look at the real Cuba. I rented a motorcycle in Havana, and logged almost 1,000 miles of empty roads in order to get to far away places. Since Spanish is my first language and Puerto Rico is my home, I was able to strike spontaneous conversations with my subjects and everyone in between, thus giving me the tools I needed to relate to everyone around.
